At the Journey, we strive to pursue and provide doctrinally sound, biblical teaching. We view scripture as our highest authority and, as such, sufficient and necessary for all matters of faith and life (2 Timothy 3:16). Thus, we seek to measure all things according to what the Bible teaches, and it alone (1 John 5:9, Galatians 1:8-9). The following list of recommended teachers and resources is not meant to be exhaustive. We have surely neglected to list many great teachers and resources that have done much to educate and edify the community of faith. Furthermore, while we may not agree with all of these teachers on some secondary doctrinal matters, they all have a history and reputation for sound and trustworthy teaching. For this matter, we encourage you to utilize the vast collection of resources available to you for the purposes of instructing yourself and others, with the caveat that you should always begin and end your pursuit of knowledge with scripture. We hope these resources will bless and encourage you in the way they have us.
In Christ,
The Journey Church Elders
Notes concerning resources
- It is always wise when assessing resources to consult the recommendations that appear on the cover. If
teachers you can trust, trust that teacher, he/she is probably safe to consider trustworthy. - Don’t neglect the role of the local church in training you in godliness. Your pastor(s), as well as your brothers
and sisters in Christ offer a wealth of experience and knowledge. Additionally, they have something that none
of these teachers have to offer...a personal relationship with you. Who better to speak truth into your life than
the people that are doing it alongside you? - Consider trustworthy the old adage, “there’s nothing new under the sun.” In other words, in the over 2000
years of Christian history and scholarship, there have been a lot of people thinking about and talking about God.
Heresies have come and gone (and in many cases, come back around again) and orthodox faith has stood the
test of time. If a resource claims to offer something novel or new...tread carefully.
