Journey to The Journey

Subheader MHS moving

This Sunday we’re moving our worship services to Marietta High School’s auditorium!

First of all, I should start by saying that we are very grateful for the 3 years that we’ve had at Odyssey Theatres.  The people at Odyssey have been easy to work with and great hosts.  Odyssey Theatres and the movie “The Possession” (which I still haven’t seen but was playing our opening Sunday, ha) will always hold a special place in our hearts.

After considering several locations in and around Marietta the past couple of years, the High School makes the most sense for our church.  Below are several reasons I’m eager for this new chapter of The Journey.

1. Family Worship

Each Sunday we’ll now have enough seats to include the entire family in our opening worship.  After checking in your child for Journey Kids, parents will now bring their kids into the main auditorium for corporate worship.  Our children will join us in the call to worship, worship songs and scripture reading, and then be dismissed to Journey Kids where they will continue in their Gospel Project study.

This traditional church dynamic will allow our families to worship together each and every Sunday.  Not to mention this also benefits our volunteers as it allows them to participate in our opening worship each Sunday as well!  Personally I’m really excited about having my three boys sitting next to me and feel as though this will be an incredibly healthy change for our church family.  Our nursery (up to age 3) will still be available during the entire worship service!

2. Our New Service Time Of 10AM

We don’t have to avoid Sunday matinees at MHS.  At the high school we’ll have a larger window of time to setup and tear down our service.  I anticipate our young congregation to really appreciate these extra 15 minutes! Our Marietta College students can hit that snooze button one more time and parents will have 15 more minutes to dress those kiddos.

3. Our Money Goes To Support MHS

It costs money to have a space for church, that’s true for practically any and every church.  However, giving money to our local school for this service is a tremendously great feeling.  We hope to be a blessing to MHS beyond paying them for the use of their building.  While we’re there we hope to find little ways to serve and benefit the high school any way that we can.

4. Setup Will Become A Tad Easier

The volunteers at our church graciously work hard and are very consistent.  For 3 years we’ve had people show up 2-3 hours early to ensure our worship experience is ready to roll each Sunday morning.  Having a stage ready for use at the high school’s auditorium will save some time and make our backs happy!  Being portable we’ll still need volunteers to setup each Sunday but we’ll have a little hop in our step knowing we don’t have to lug our old stage around anymore.

Praying this move is a blessing for the high school and us!
