Had Jesus wanted to be the lesser messiah that the Jews were trying to make him out to be in chapter 6 of John's gospel He was in the perfect position. With food in their bellies and the power of Christ revealed, the Jews were ready to force Jesus into a corrupt kingship. Jesus was the prophesied king the Jews needed but not the one they wanted. Christ exposes their motives, confronts their hypocrisy and loves them enough to tell them the truth they don't want to hear.
"He reads the secret motives of all who profess and call themselves Christians. He knows exactly why they do all they do in their religion. The reasons why they go to church, and why they receive the sacrament, - why they attend family prayers, and why they keep Sunday holy, - all are naked and opened to the eyes of the Head of the Church.
