Journey to The Journey

Dangerous CallingI can't emphasize enough as to how much of an impact this book had on me.  For me this wasn't a book that I could just skim through, it slowed me down every time I picked it up.  I chewed on this book over the course of a couple months due to the thought it continuously provoked in me.  Reading through each chapter was an incredibly encouraging and at the same time an extraordinarily painful experience, it was something I really needed personally.

Pastor Tripp not only has an amazing mustache but does an effective job of communicating the challenges of being a pastor and the pitfalls that we're all prone too in ministry.  At times I felt like I was being punched in the gut but what this book continuously reminded me of was how much I need to cling to the sufficiency of God's grace as I lead, there is no substitute.

I think this read is incredibly valuable for two groups of people:

     1. Pastors - This is now a book I would throw in the "must read" section for anyone in ministry.  There are countless gems of truth in this book that you need reminded of no matter how long you've been in ministry.  I'd encourage you to sit under this guys teaching for a bit and let him minister to you with this book.  No, you won't find any sermons or quick devotions to steal or make of this but I can promise you that this will make you a better preacher.

     2. People who love to pray for their pastor - It seems in every successful church I've known there are at least a handful of people that are faithfully dedicated to praying for their pastor.  If that's you then this book can give you a lot of insight into what you can specifically pray for.  Chances are you've asked your pastor on several occasions how you can pray for them.  Well, read this book and you won't have to ask for a while as you'll discover a plethora material to take to the Lord.

If you're a pastor get it, if you have a pastor that you call a friend then buy this as a gift and give it to them.

To God be the glory,

This is a book I've been looking forward to diving into since it came out, even more so since you reminded me of Pastor Tripp's excellent mustache. Right now I'm digging though "The Priority of Preaching" by Christopher Ash, which I think you would like a lot, it's three expositions on preaching based in the book of Deuteronomy(it's also really short and cheap [you can borrow my copy when I'm done]).
