Journey Groups

What is the purpose of Journey Groups?

Journey Groups exist to foster individual spiritual growth among believers within the context of Christian fellowship and community.  Scripture teaches us that God has designed us, as human beings, made in his image, to live in relationships with others.  In Genesis 2:18, God declares, "It is not good that the man should be alone..."  Just as God has eternally existed in relationship with himself within the Godhead (Father, Son, and Spirit), so also are we created to exist within interpersonal relationships with others.

Community and relationships with others is also a key component of Christ's plan for the establishment, growth, and perseverance of his Church from the very beginning.  Acts 2 details the early days of the Church:

And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.  And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles.  And all who believed were together and had all things in common.  And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need.  And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people.  And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved. (Acts 2:42-47)

Christian community through Journey Groups is more than just fellowship, Bible study, and prayer (although those are key elements to every group gathering).  As we see in scripture, "doing life" with other believers is part of the way we worship God, as well as one of the means he uses to edify and sanctify his people.

What is a Journey Group meeting like?

Every group has its own identity, but all share some things in common.  A group meeting typically consists of a time for fellowship, a time for study/discussion, and a time for sharing and prayer.  Some groups include, as part of their fellowship time, coming together for a meal.  We encourage our groups to develop a system that works for them.

All of our groups are open and welcome to visitors and new members.  Many groups also offer on-site childcare to allow parents with young children to relax and enjoy the time, while knowing their kids are safe and having an enjoyable time as well.

I'd like to visit/host/lead a Journey Group...what do I do?

If you are interested in attending a group, take a look at the information below about our current groups, choose one that looks right for you, and jump in.  If you have questions, contact the group host and/or leader, or email JourneyGroups@thejourneychurchmarietta.com for more information.

We are always looking to grow our Journey Group ministry, so if you are interested in hosting a group in your home, we would love to talk to you.  Contact us to setup a meeting to discuss future opportunities.

If you enjoy discipling others and are interested in leading a group, we want to talk to you as well.  We strive to raise up and train/equip leaders and multiply groups organically.  If you haven't participated in a group before, we would want and encourage you to spend some time in a group first.  If you've been participating in a group and now feel ready to lead a group yourself, contact us and we will setup a meeting to discuss planting a new group.
